This past Thursday our team went to the orphanage here in Savusavu. This orphanage is the only one on this island and holds only nine children between the ages of three months to sixteen years. Kevin and Jeremiah had gone the previous Thursday to help and meet the owners and raved about it, so I thought I would go see it for myself. I didn't go in with any expectations; actually with a less than amazing attitude because I had a really bad headache and thought I would have rather stayed in bed. When we got to the top of a big hill on which was the orphanage, I stood in awe of the amazing view. The orphanage overlooked the whole coastline, along with many houses and mountains in the background. I was amazed to say the least. When we went inside we met the owner and then the children, as they had the day off from school due to Diwali. Six of the eldest children are girls, and there are three baby boys that live there as well. The girls were all so polite; serving us and welcoming us with their warm smiles. We had morning tea with them and got to know them. The boys then went on to do some manual labor while myself and Alex spent some time inside the house with the young girls. The girls gave us a tour of the house and I was again amazed at how nice it was. I had not pictured the home to be so well kept and warm feeling, but the owners are Jesus loving Christians and take good care of the kids and the home. There is one other woman from Australia who works there as a nanny to the older girls. I got to talk with her and hear about her life and tell her about YWAM as well. When I was sitting with two of the younger girls, one asked me if I wanted to sing a song with her. I then asked her which one, and she proceeded to open up a book of worship songs and flipped right to the song, Lord I Lift Your Name on High. I was immediately filled with joy as that song is one of my favorites. As she began to sing it I was reminded of all the times at home where I preformed that song with the TCC worship team and why I loved it so much. That song is so simple yet has the entire gospel story of love in it. I then in a second remembered why I love Jesus so much. A song that I had enjoyed so much is still being sang to worship on the complete other side of the world. This time however, I wasn't worshiping with a church full of people, but in an orphanage with a thirteen year old girl in a small island in the south pacific. This is why I wanted to do missions. I love finding the simple gospel and love of Jesus all over the world. I love finding joy with people that the world expects to have none. I love being able to share Jesus with people that otherwise wouldn't get Him. This is why I love Jesus. He is so simple yet so complex. I love that I can go across the world to an orphanage secluded on the top of a huge hill on a small island and still find Jesus. I know that God gave me that moment to remind me of that. I am so grateful for that day and for everything that God is doing for those children
